Richmond Toys 9992 London Ambulance

This model is the Richmond Toys 9992 London Ambulance in White. This model was issued as a limited edition to raise funds for the Diana, Princess of Wales Children's Hospital, Birmingham. This is model 913 of 6000 and comes in its original box with certificate of authenticity.

It has opening rear doors only. The front grille may be plastic with clear plastic headlight lenses either side. The front number plate [BCH 001] and bumper is part of the base. The main body is white with a yellow bonnet and rear roof. The sides carry casting detail representing the doors and body trim, a red stripe, and rear body decal reading "Ambulance Service, [Red Balloon image], Children First, Diana Princess of Wales Children's Hospital" on 4 lines. On the front of the roof are two blue "lights" inset either side of the white panel which has red "Ambulance" lettering. The yellow main rear roof has a balloon logo and "Children First, Diana Princess of Wales, Children's Hospital, Birmingham" on 4 lines in blue and red lettering. The rear carries two more blue "lights" at roof level, a black on yellow number plate [BCH 001], red tail lights, a green diamond-shaped sign, and the two opening doors. The doors are marked "AMBULANCE" at the top and "EMERGENCY" at the bottom.

The interior is black plastic with a right hand drive, black plastic steering wheel. The glazing is clear all round, except for the rear doors which do not have glazing.

All wheels are of the "speed wheel" type - hollow one piece plastic with a "grey" patterned "hub" in the center.

The base plate is black painted metal and is marked with Richmond Toys on the first line, "Ambulance" on the second line, and "No. 9992" on the third line at the bottom centre. It also carries a basic representation of the gearbox, drive shaft, suspension, rear differential, exhaust system, and spare tyre. It is held in place by two small self tapping screws, one front and one rear.

I do not know when this model was issued. It comes with special "Limited Edition" packaging and certificate of authenticity showing it is model 0913 of 6000 issued.

The sides carry casting detail representing the doors and body trim, a blue and white chequered stripe, blue and yellow emergency service stripes at the body bottom, and rear body decal reading "Great Ormond Street, Children's Hospital" on 2 lines. THE GOSH logo appears in the left side door window. On the front of the roof are two blue "lights" inset either side of the white panel which has blue "Ambulance" lettering. The main rear roof is white and unadorned. The rear carries two more blue "lights" at roof level, a black on yellow number plate [GOSH 1], red tail lights, a blue cross logo, a green diamond-shaped sign, and the two opening doors. The doors are marked "AMBULANCE" at the top in blue and "EMERGENCY" in white on a blue stripe, at the bottom.
