This model set contains three Matchbox MB38 Ford Model A Vans released as a special promotional item by Mervyn Wynne to commemorate the 1992 Isle of Man races. The first in the set is two tone blue with a red roof and carries labels on the rear sides reading "13th - 16th July 1992, Southern 100, Isle of Man". The second model is red with red roof carrying labels reading "Isle of Man, TT 92, June 1 - June 12 1992". The third model is two tone blue with dark blue roof and labels that read "Manx Grand Prix, 1992, Aug 22 to Sept 4".
Most detail is cast into the body. Detail includes the front engine louvres, the front doors, door handles and door hinges, the rear doors, handles and rear number plate [KG6567 on the TT and Grand Prix models and DR5869 on the Southern 100 model]. The front and rear wheel arches and running boards are cast as a separate metal component and painted gloss black. The front bumper, front lights, and grille are also cast separately in plastic and chrome plated on the TT and Grand Prix models and gold plated on the Southern 100 model. The van sides are adorned with paper labels as described above and the front doors carry a depiction of the Isle of Man in yellow, outlined in black on the TT and Grand Prix models and in red on the Southern 100 model.
There is no interior as these models were never issued with interiors. The glazing is only present in the cab area and is clear plastic — there is no glazing in the rear door windows.
The base plate is black plastic that fits inside the black metal body component housing the wheel arches. It is marked at the top centre "Matchbox", followed by "Model A Ford, Matchbox Int'l Ltd, © 1979" on three lines in the centre middle, and "Made in Macau" at the centre bottom on the TT and Grand Prix models and "Made in China" on the Southern 100 model. It is held in place by two machined rivets, one at the front and one at the rear.
All wheels are of the "Superfast" type - one piece plastic hub and tyre component, with a separate chrome and black "dot dash" 10 spoke hub insert.
This model set was issued in 1992 and comes in a special limited edition, yellow window box with red stripes with "Isle of Man, Road Racing Capital of the World" on two lines on the hanging header.
