This model is the Matchbox MB38 Ford Model A Van in White. It was released as a special Limited Edition Code 2 promotional item by Ad-Ventures Inc. for Cooter's Place.
For those of you not familiar with the US TV programme "Dukes of Hazzard", Cooter was the proprietor of the local garage in the series. The part of Cooter was played by Ben Jones and he and his wife are the owners of “Cooter’s Place”, the “Dukes of Hazzard” museum and shops in Sperryville, Virginia, and Gatlinburg and Nashville, Tennessee.
After the “Dukes of Hazzard” show ended, Ben Jones was elected to the United States Congress and served two terms. He then returned to his entertainment career and keeps up with his political interests by appearing as a regular on shows such as “O’Reilly” and “Hardball.” He is also a writer and singer, contributing to newspapers and magazines including The Washington Post, USA Today, and The Weekly Standard, and he and his “Cooter’s Garage Band” have appeared throughout the United States at concerts, fairs, and festivals. He and his wife also founded “Dukesfest”, an annual gathering of “Dukes of Hazzard” fans.
Most detail is cast into the body. Detail includes the front engine louvres, the front doors, door handles and door hinges, the rear doors, handles and rear numberplate [KG6567]. The front and rear wheel arches and running boards are cast as a separate metal component and painted gloss black. The front bumper, front lights, and grille are also cast separately in plastic and chrome plated. The van sides are adorned with red tampo printed advertising reading "Cooter's GARAGE" on two lines with a line drawing of Cooter's tow truck. The front doors read "sperryville, Virginia" on two lines. On the cab roof is "01".
There is no interior as these models were never issued with interiors. The glazing is only present in the cab area and is clear plastic — there is no glazing in the rear door windows.
The baseplate is black plastic that fits inside the black metal body component housing the wheel arches. It is marked at the top centre "Matchbox", followed by "Model A Ford, Matchbox Int'l Ltd, © 1979" in the centre middle, and "Made in China" at the centre bottom. It is held in place by two machined rivets, one at the front and one at the rear. Note: The underside of the running boards are tampo printed in white with "1490 EA" which may be a production number or order number.
All wheels are of the "Superfast" type - one piece plastic hub and tyre component, with a separate chrome and black "dot dash" 10 spoke hub insert.
This model was issued in 2001 as a Code 2 limited edition (of 50?). It comes in a plain white box, blank on 3 sides and carrying a white paper label on the 4th side identifying the model as an Ad-Ventures item produced for Cooter's Garage in 2001 as a limited edition.
