This model is the Dinky 480-G Bedford CA Van in Dark Green Post Office Telephones livery. It came in an authentic John Gay #410 Bedford CF box but is, in fact, an incorrectly packaged CODE 3 model as John Gay did not use this casting for his models. I suspect the vendor I purchased from didn't realise the box was worth more than the model.
There are no opening parts on this model and all features are cast into the body casting. The model has a (probably) hand painted grille, headlights and bumper at the front in silver. The side doors carry small water-slide decals that read "Post Office, Telephones, Telephone Manager" on three lines in Yellow lettering. There is no glazing and the rear door windows are closed (cast with a metal "window").
The baseplate is in black metal marked with "Dinky Toys" at the top centre, "Bedford" on the second line, "Made in England" on the third line, and "Meccano Ltd" at the bottom centre on the fourth line. It is held in place by one machined replica rivet and a rear body locating lug.
All wheels are dark green cast metal hubs (ridged) with black rubber tyres fixed to replacement axles.
This casting was used between 1954 and 1959. I do not know when this Code 3 model was produced.
