This model is the Budgie 206 Leyland Hippo Coal Truck in Green and Tan with Black coal load. It was packed originally in a yellow Budgie (A1 or A2) box with Morris & Stone references. Later released by Guiterman Group in the A8 box.
The model has a Green cab and chassis, and is comprised of 2 or 3 main castings (cab and chassis, rear, and possibly the coal load). The trim is silver paint used on the bumpers, grille, light lenses, tool box, and fuel tanks. All detail is cast in to the body.
There is no interior or glazing on this model.
There is no base plate, rather the underside of the casting carries, at the top centre "Leyland, Hippo-20HS, Made in England, Budgie Toys" on 4 lines and at the rear, between, and at right angles to, the axles, "Laden, Weight, 20 Tons". The rear is held in place by two machined river posts. The coal load may only be pressure fitted.
All wheels are cast metal hubs, painted green, each with a black rubber tyre. They are fitted to steel axles which pass through the cab and chassis casting, domed on one side and crimped on the other.
Issued 1959 to approximately 1964, the model was very popular with rail modellers as it is nearly OO/HO scale.
